GunHippo Store Update

Just a quick update on GH. Although we currently have a small brick & mortar shop, we have plans to build a new storefront onto our existing building. Plans were for this past spring but the pandemic effect on lumber prices etc. have delayed plans. So now we are “shooting” for next spring.

In the meantime we’ll make due with the current situation. We accept all major credit cards. Most items can be shipped directly to your home. Firearms of course, must be shipped to your favorite FFL dealer or you can pick them up in our store. We have some handguns, a few shotguns, and some 9mm and 40 cal ammo in stock in our local store. We also continue to receive firearms for customers making purchases online. Charges are $30 for any gun. Additional guns in the same transaction are $10 for each gun. You can reach us at 570-486-6676 or sales@gunhippo.com. Have a great Thanksgiving holiday.

“RUST” Shooting

By most accounts firearms safety on the set of Rust was non existent. In our humble opinion Alec Baldwin as producer and actor is absolutely liable for this horrible and preventable “accident”. Aside from all of the other failures of safety protocols regarding firearms Alec Baldwin was the last to handle the revolver. If he had any knowledge, experience or training with the handling of firearms this “accident” should not have occurred. When handed the weapon he should have personally opened and checked the revolver to see if it was loaded and with what type of cartridges. Other questions; Why was he pointing a weapon at another person in the first place? Why did he have his finger on the trigger if he wasn’t ready to fire? Was the hammer cocked? Was it a single or double action? It was a period correct 45 long colt revolver. If the hammer wasn’t cocked it would have taken significant pull on the trigger to fire the gun. How could it accidentally fire without being cocked? Why was it cocked in the first place? Why was there live ammo rounds anywhere near a movie set? Many questions need to be answered. There is already finger pointing going on by Alec Baldwin and those that wish to protect him. The fact is, the gun was in the hands of Alec Baldwin. He is responsible for what happens as a result of negligent handling of the firearm. No one else. #alecbaldwin #rust #shooting

Where is the ammo?

It appears that the ammo shortage won’t be ending anytime soon. From recent news articles even though the ammo manufacturers are running at capacity they just can’t make enough. There seems to be two issues at play. One is that the US Dept. of Defense, [the Federal Govt}, buys all of their ammo from the same manufacturers. Since the military and civilians are using much of the same ammo, guess who gets priority? The other is raw materials. Mainly copper. Because copper is now used in so many products from vehicles, computers, electrical components and much more, ammo manufacturers now have to compete with many other markets for copper. This has caused the price to go up and the supply to get tight. Then throw in the shipping issues with container ships sitting on the ocean waiting months to get into port and we have a perfect storm of events. So hang on it may take a while to catch up. #ammo #gun #gunhippo

2nd Amendment

From the book, “The Second Amendment Primer” by Les Adams, introduction: “For all these years, I came to realize, the NRA had been taking considerable heat in the popular press for its unyielding defense of the right of the individual citizen to keep and bear arms, whereas all along, in steadfastly denying that the right existed, the proponents of banning guns were – and continue to be wrong. For, from reading and analyzing this material over the last year, and applying a ration of simple common sense, I am now convinced, unequivocally and unquestionably, that the Second Amendment to the US Constitution ratifies and preserves for every citizen the right to keep and bear arms; and moreover, Congress or any other instrumentality of the Federal Government is constitutionally barred from infringing that right.”

The above referenced book (primer), as Les Adams states was not written for lawyers or scholars, it was written for you and me. For anyone who wants to understand the thinking, context, and reasoning of our founding fathers in constructing the 2nd Amendment we highly recommend this book. It is easy to read and understand. Mine is the 1996 edition. I also have the Bill of Rights Primer and the American Freedom Primer. They are also a nice size to keep in my brief case for quick reference. We need to keep up the fight. Educating and informing our fellow citizens on our 2nd amendment right to keep and bear arms. This book is a great place to start. #secondamendment #2a #gunhippo
